Great Weather, Great Times at 2025 Rattler Run

500 plus runners and walkers contested the 2025 Rattler Run Road Race

Under bright sunny skies, 500 plus runners and walkers took to the roads and bike trails around Medicine Hat College on Saturday for the 46th annual Rattler Run.

Present and former Rattlers runners figured prominently among the top finishers in the 10 km event.  Chris Jonker, a 2021 Rattlers alumnus, took the top prize in the men’s 10 km event, stopping the clock in 35:46, 4.5 minutes ahead of Medicine Hat’s Julio Figueroa, who finished in second place. Another local runner, Tyler Heron, placed third.

The women’s 10k race featured a re-match between last year’s winner, 2024 Rattlers alumnus Becky Ross, and the 2025 Rattlers Female Athlete of the Year, Maddie Scrimger.  Scrimger turned the tables on Ross this year, prevailing in a time of 41:29, 30 seconds clear of Ross.  Three-time basketball hot shots champion Erin Nordstrom-Young of Calgary placed third.

The 5 km races were won by a pair of youngsters.  Fifteen-year old Anna Chatterton of Lethbridge took the women’s 5 km title in a time of 21:33, while 17-year old Alejandro Alaya Aguilar of Medicine Hat triumphed in the men’s 5 km (17:56).  The minor medals were won by Quinn Haldorson (2nd place men’s), Keegan Koldoy (3rd place men’s), Ellie Barlow (2nd place women’s) and Sherri Emerson (3rd place women’s)

The 3 km winners were Pincher Creek’s Wiliam Feran (11:27) and Lamely, Saskatchewan’s Taiya Chappel (12:27).

Seven local businesses and organizations raced in the mascot race at the 2025 Rattler Run

The mascot race was a hotly contested affair attracting seven contestants from a variety of local businesses and organizations. Daniel’s Dip Ferry overtook a fading Boston Pizza’s Lionel in the final meters to defend the title he won last year for the first time.  The AHS Paramedics Moose placed third.
