In normal times, you wouldn’t expect a Rattlers runner to gain home course advantage in a race in Red Deer. But these are not normal times. With COVID-19 restrictions in place this fall, 1st year Paramedic student Carson Schiller has been studying remotely at his home this semester in Red Deer, the venue for Saturday’s 2020 Alberta XC Running Series Final at the Riverbend Golf Course.
Schiller parlayed his home course knowledge into a solid 18th place finish under snowy, chilly conditions. He rallied hard over the final lap stopping the clock at 33:03 for the 8 km distance.
Former Hat High runner Landon Swartz, now running for SAIT, also took part in the race. Swartz place 9th overall in a time of 30:09.
