In the final meet before the ACAC Championships, Rattlers’ runners Daniel Friesen and Reyna Woodruff both laid down convincing wins at ACAC Meet #3 in Lethbridge on Saturday.
Friesen blasted out the blocks in the men’s 300m, led gun-to-tape, and stopped the clock at 36.99 seconds, 1.84 seconds ahead of second place finisher Wayne Bauluck from Lethbridge College. Friesen also finished second in the men’s 60m.
Woodruff used a different tactic in her victory in the women’s 1500m. She ran in the lead pack for the first 600m, put in a strong surge, took the lead, and gradually stretched out the gap between her and the rest of a field. Woodruff finished in a personal best time of 5:26.39 for a 10 plus second victory.
Collectively, the Rattlers men finished third among the eight ACAC schools who contested the meet. The Rattlers women placed fifth.
The Rattlers runners head to Edmonton next Saturday and Sunday for the ACAC Championship meet.
