Rookie Daniel Friesen led the way for MHC runners on Saturday at ACAC 1 -The Concordia Open in Edmonton.

The McCoy High grad blasted out of the blocks in the men’s 50m and held off NAIT’s Malachi Muir, last year’s Canadian Indoor 200m champion, until the final few meters, recording a time of 6.15, good for second place. Friesen’s time was a new Rattlers school record for the 50m. The performance was the best-ever MHC indoor clocking in any event, registering a score of 897 on the World Athletics Scoring Tables.

Logan Pancoast, another 2025 McCoy grad, erased a pair of Rattler school records dating back to 2022. Pancoast was 3rd amongst the college runners in the 3000m in a time of 9:47.31 and seventh in the 1500m in a time of 4:37.84

The top Rattlers women’s performance came from yet another rookie, Reyna Woodruff, in the 1500m. Making a strong move at the 1200m mark, Woodruff passed two runners on the final lap and stopped the clock at 5:29.48, good for 2nd place amongst the college runners.

Collectively, the Rattler women placed 5th; the Rattler men finished in 6th place out of 12 ACAC teams.

Next up for the Rattler tracksters is ACAC 2 hosted by Red Deer Polytechnic on Feb. 14.
