A quartet of MHC Rattlers runners were in Prince Edward Island on the weekend taking part in the CCAA National X-C Running Championships. Four women and one male athlete took on the best college runners in Canada on the trails of Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park just outside of Charlottetown.
Pheonix Asprey led the MHC ladies with a 39th place finish in the women’s 6 km race, covering the extremely hilly and soggy course in a time of 25:56. Teammates Renya Woodruff (67th), Presley Brennan (92nd), and Addison Weir (99th) also took part in the race.
Collectively, the Rattlers women placed 13th in a field of 17 teams.
Logan Pancoast was the lone MHC entrant in the men’s 8 km race. He recorded a time of 28:25, good for 38th place in a field of 114.

Quebec athletes dominated the meet. Runners from La Belle Province took the top 5 places in the women’s team competition, 6 of the top 7 spots in the women’s individual standings, places 1 through 4 in the men’s team race, and 5 of the first 6 finishers in the men’s individual race.
Red Deer Polytechnic was the top Alberta school placing 6th amongst the women’s teams and 7th amongst the men’s teams.
A 228 runners from 34 different schools across Canada took part in the meet.
