MHC runner Maddy Scrimger ran her best race of the season on Saturday, placing 14th at the 2023 CCAA Cross Country Running Nationals in Truro, Nova Scotia on Saturday. The second-year Nursing student covered the challenging 6 km course through the forests of Victoria Park in a time of 23:34, 50 seconds faster than her season’s previous best time. Scrimger, who placed fifth at the ACAC championships last month, was the second Alberta runner across the line, behind Makenna Fitzgerald of SAIT Polytechnic, who captured her third consecutive CCAA crown.
Scrimger’s teammate, Becky Ross, who finished 7th in last year’s CCAA Championships, had a tough day on Saturday. Battling a significant calf injury, Ross managed to tough out a 42nd place finish. Pyper Gill (78th) and Mizuki Iwata (86th) also completed the race for the Rattlers.
Collectively, the MHC women placed 13th among the top college teams from across Canada.

With the cross country running season now complete, the Rattlers runners will be taking a well-earned two-week break from training before starting to prepare for the upcoming indoor track season in the new year.
